A Sense of ReliefHummmmm.
Spoilers for Meridian have given me a sense of relief, and closure. I think I can live with Michael Shanks' departure now, because it sounds as if he goes out with the style Daniel Jackson deserves. I wasn't even touching on the Ascension possibility, because I disliked it so much I didn't really want to think about it. Despite the Shifu connection, I just couldn't see Daniel just dropping everything for it... peaceful explorer or not, he's learned too much to screw around like Nick did.
So in Meridian, he ascends-- but only because he sacrificed himself to destroy a weapon of mass destruction before it killed millions of innocents. That IS Daniel Jackson; who and what he is. Jumping in front of a staff weapon for a virtual stranger, or exposing himself to massive radiation to save a planet, he just does what has to be done. It's worth it. Daniel has always known, insinctively, the meaning of life stuff, and with only one exception (can we say Go'auld Larvae? Anyway, Jury's still out on that one.) has always acted on those instincts. Oma Desala instead allows him to ascend. It's going to be awful without him. Simply awful. But better ascended than dead, or tripping about the SGC but NOT on SG-1. No Rothman-esque Daniel in the show's future, thankyouverymuch.
Like Shifu, Daniel will be able to take on human form, and spoilers have indicated that not only will he guest star in S6 (hopefully his guest-starring will be more action-oriented than DJ-Kenobi, as has been suggested on SG1HC), but that like Orlin, he's be able to 'descend' in a more permanent way later (perhaps in time for the Stargate II movie?).
Above all, Daniel Jackson is a student of the universe, and Oma Desala will have much to teach him. It's only fitting that the man who opened the Gate will have such an intimate understanding of them.
I want Jack to be angry at Daniel for not re-descending right away. I want Sam to cry (of course she will! Yeah!) and hug him. I want Daniel to look Teal'c in the eye, and say something to ease his torment. Janet will have guilt. Heck, even Hammond should hug him.
I also want to see a vastly superior and enlightened Daniel Jackson visiting the Nox.
If we didn't know the whole storyline is prompted by Shanks' departure, I could almost believe they were leading up to it all along. Lya's "They have learned nothing. But you have...", Maternal Instinct, etc.
It could be very good.
How will this change Daniel? Above all things, he deserves some peace. He'll get that. Shifu's prediction will come true, and Daniel (will be) at last on a new path. Does this mean he'll stop drinking coffee? XD
Anyway, I'm hopeful. I have great faith in the producers of SG-1, and I'll be with them for the journey.

Birthdays, Blood, and BusinessToday was my sister's B-day. We went to dinner at Ralph & Kacoo's, it was nice. But I'm not ordering the shrimp au gratin again, they had waaaaaaaaay too many leeks and shallots in it. Bleh.
I picked up many many packages today! Lissette sent me all of her doujinshis and some color prints, she's VERY talented (and I'm a lovely shade of mint green). Lyra, one of them is a Vincent X Sepiroth dj.
Also got.... hmmm, the first four volumes of Kaim Tachibana's Shinesman mangas.... they're great, but you can tell her style has really evolved since she did those. Some miscellaneous shoujo and yaoi I'd ordered... 2 Sho-Comi exclusive cds. One has special songs and dramas for series like Ami Non Stop!, Dreamer, Fushigi Yuugi, some Chie Sinohara series, some Chiho Saitou series (Kannon? I think it's Kannon), etc. The FY track is a drama version of the Hotohori/Miaka/Tamahome scene from... episode 13, was it? Somewhere around there... The last FY CD Book I was missing.... Miyuki Kitagawa Artbook (WAIWAIWAI ~ It's autographed!!!!!!!!)... and Legend of Basara first Artbook: Fire. This one is MUCH nicer than the second which I already have and didn't love very much. I am giddy over some of the pretties in Fire. Oh, and the three Ayashi no Ceres novels which I never had found cheap enough to bother with before now.
Neesan, sounds like you're GENKI. Thanks for putting up with my GS rambles last night. QS, sorry I missed you! Ger, *snugs* and glad you like your M7 cel! Nishi, the check number is 278 and it hasn't cleared. I'll send another.... how'd your tests go?
I sliced my finger open with a pocket knife today. Oops. It bled copiously and my mom said I would need stiches but I think she was exaggerating. XD It's deep, but not like it cut into the bone or anything... it sure bled a lot though. *peers at bandaid anxiously* I definitely had bloody hands today....
Thank God tomorrow is Friday. This has been the week from hell. The only reason worth going to work tomorrow is that it's Payday. Speaking of, gotta go grade today's Math tests and homework.

DreamsI had odd dreams last night/this morning. First I dreamed I saw William again, and that we hugged, and kissed four times. He looked older, more worried. I looked... fatter. -.-;;;;;
Then there was this really odd part about climbing up huge staircases but one of the landings wasn't attached somehow and this woman ahead of me started to fall and I grabbed her wrist and pulled her up over the ledge (Yea! Strong Laurel!). Turned out that she was applying for the same job as me, so I should have let her fall ^_~.... And then there was some really creepy things about William drinking and swallowing glass shards from the bottle. Like he'd smashed the neck and eaten the pieces, then drunk from the broken bottle-- his face and hands were all bloody. And we had to go to the hospital. There was more, but....
... I hope you're ok, Will.

*sigh*My 23rd layout (original) for the Pita didn't dice well, so I dug up this thing I'd colorized a looooooong time ago instead. I can't seem to make a decent layout recently.
I have to say I am devestated by the news of Michael Shank's decision to leave SG-1, except in a secondary role. It's hard not to be angry about it-- would one more season be so much to ask, since he is on friendly terms with Production staff and his fellow actors? But on another level I can understand and sadly support it.
I don't know if I'll continue with the show or not after he leaves. It's going to depend on how he leaves, I think. I won't stand for Daniel being relegated to the position of a glorified Robert Rothman, I won't! The very IDEA of them replacing Daniel on the team with a fourth 'civie with a conscience' is ludicrous. There's no history. No one else has squat in Jack's book but Daniel. Teal'c will be... disgruntled. He'll do the eyebrow thing. Sam will be... er, she'll be upset too. I will HATE it if they welcome someone else with open arms. I will hate it even more if they go visit Daniel's lab once evry three episodes for a translation. It's INSANE.
There are only a few ways I can see this working. A) Daniel can't be on active gateduty because he's permanently injured. Wheelchair Daniel I can live with, so long as he appears frequently and there is no degradation of the team dynamic on base.
Like Jack is going to have Pizza and Beer night with newbie-guy.
B) I hate to think it, but Daniel is Go'aulded. A lot of people hate this one... but at least if it happens we know Danny's not leaving the team of his own free will, and we have hope eternal that they'll save him. For the series finale. Or else.
It would be a great opportunity for Shanks to play up the 'Absolute Power' side of his personality, in terms of acting. It would also give us a few tantilizing scenes of Danny fighting the Go'auld's (we presume Anubis'?) control. I can live with it.
My final idea, and by far my preferred solution, in so much as I would hate to loose Shanks altogether, is for the studio to cut him loose all together and hire a replacement actor. There's a history there anyway, with change over from the movie, and even with Sliders, which changed lead actors for the main character during it's run on SCI FI... and now that SCI FI has the 6th season of SG-1? Hope springs eternal....
We'd loose some of the comfortable, well oiled machine that SG-1's acting team has become, but to me that's preferrable to loosing Daniel on the team altogether. So long as they picked a talented actor, they can get away with any physical differences-- heck, it's a great opportunity for Daniel to grow out his hair again.
Don't take Daniel awaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!! ;_; I hate this.
